Definition - Noyz ft Sikh Knowledge

[Verse 1]
It's what we all search for, what we were birthed from, but still it hurts more, remember the first one/
Uttered the words, stunned/ fluttered, the birds sung/ a flood of colors when in love with her, the urge comes
When I looked in her eyes, but now it faded, jaded when things changed and we couldn't save it/
Put on a pedestal for all the wrong reasons, but so unforgettable to fall, all dreaming to be swept away/
Blinded by the silver lining of cloud 9, outshine diamonds/
Inside is where you find it, love your self first, but we look to it building our sense of self worth/
Observe and hear people living open, and my parents after 30 years, though they've never spoke it but they share it/
It's real/ poets and singers try to capture it, but still, until you know it and live it, you'll never fathom it/

[Chorus]
Feet on the ground, what's keeping us down?/ Seeking the ends of it, try breaching the bounds/ and now/
What it is, what it was, what it will be/ tearing these walls down so I can still see/
Head in the clouds, never stepping around any question or test where a lesson is found/ and now/
What it is, what it was, what it will be/ tearing these walls down so I can live free/

[Verse 2]
Remove the scales from your eyes to balance your wants and needs/
But wants flee when told that there's no option B/ so molds hold us, shoulders get pinned to the mat,
Submissive we tap, hopes are thrown over/ replaced by scenes from dreams we've never seen,
That cycle in black and white, the price of the appetite grows bigger/ a mixture of drive and ambition,
And fear of failure when the mind demands different/ wishing upon a star, visioning long and far, through the night,
And your sight is driven beyond the par, but despite every step you've taken to make it happen,

Your success is just labeled as vacant action if stacks don't measure/
The pressure is intense, so you put it on the back burner, and dwell in the expense, but only you can own it/
Success is what you call it when you focus on the goal and set the quest that you've accomplished/
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
Reminded before the sun rises to take time to thank God for giving us life how he designed it,
But sometimes in certain despair, when worse for wear, couldn't find purpose just rehearsing my prayers/
Like I was just paying platitudes, people saying "what's the matter dude? You need to change your attitude"/
So now I'm pondering consciously that something is wrong with me, but in all honesty I've sought the key/
With thoughts to free an answer when I pose a question,
Like what's the role of death and if we go through soul ascension/
So I'm a nomad with no direction with a notepad scrolling on God from here below the Heavens/
But still I hope that I can know his presence if he's bestowing blessings even in the face of us that don't accept him/
Maybe I'm just in a position where I'm limited, crazy trying to fit a definition on the infinite/

The song "Definition" by Noyz featuring Sikh Knowledgeis not on Billboards Hot 100 list nor does it have over a million hit on Youtube but it is one that has great meaning. It's debuting on Noyz's album "The Shadow Gallery." This song is one about a man attempting "to fit a definition on the infinite" by asking about various parts of our life that have more than one dictionary answer.  As well, they can not be described by even the various artist or poets but must be lived through or you will "never fathom it." There is not only has a great meaning to the song but it also has an abundance of literary devices, only a few will be touched on in this passage. First of all, the first verse of the song is an extended metaphor describing love. It's what most people in this world look for and it's what we are born from though it does not have to be shown openly. Like the artist says "my parents after 30 years, though they've never spoke it but they share it" much like my own parents. It's something that does not follow one path or one definition and sometimes it doesn't work for everyone. Next there is personification when the "eyes to balance your wants and needs," he's trying to convey that there needs to be some line drawn for "wants" because they will " flee when told that there's no option B." There is a simile when it's said that "your success is just labeled as vacant action if stacks don't measure, " meaning that if you don't accomplish what you set out to then it's as if you got no where at all. Also, there is an allusion to God. It's as if the artist is confused about the lack of  responses that God has given to his questions. Parallel structure is show within this song in the chorus with the line "what it is, what it was, what it will be." It describes the present, past and future definitions of the infinite. The infinite can be defined to have no boundaries, limits, and exists beyond any other arbitrarily large value.

Letter to Coach Kleats

123 Main Street

May 25, 2011

Mr. Kleats
Head Basketball Coach
Central High School
123 Main Street
Sportstown, British Columbia
V2A 1W3

Dear Mr. Kleats:

My name is Arman Smith and I am the mother of Ryan Smith, who plays on your senior basketball team, Central High Cardinals. I recognize the time and effort you are spending in coaching the students in order for them to develop their skills. However, I do have some concerns.

I do appreciate the amount of time you have spent volunteering to coach the players but am disappointed with your punctuality. I have noticed on more than one occasion that the Cardinals arrive on time for training but you seem to be missing, Being on time would inspire the players to do the same and see you as a positive role model. As well, the practices that I have sat in on seem to be disorganized and are not geared towards improving the skills of the young players. The practices seem to have more emphasis on scrimmage than drills to practice essential basketball skills. To help with these concerns I suggest that you have a second coach that can help manage the team. This would also free some of your time and the players would benefit from it.

Attending all of the Cardinal's games I have observed that there too much focus on winning. Though I know the boys need to be motivated and keep a competitive spirit, they do not need to be constantly reminded that winning is the only objective. When they do lose it not only lowers their self esteem but it also makes them feel as if they have let you down. To follow with the winning mentality you do have, I have noticed that you have unequal playing time. My son who is less adept than other players has less playing time because of it. This is all so the team can win. I do not agree with this since all of us parents pay the same school sports fees and this was a no "try-out" basketball team. It should be changed so that every player was on a  three minute line up with players of varied strengths. This allows for the players to learn how to help each other and increases the bonding between them. Lastly, it's winning that you would like to see, I would like to offer that you change the tone of voice that you speak to your players with. A kind tone offers a positive response from the students and encourages them to play better.

I am very grateful that you have taken the time to read this letter and I hope you concur with my concerns. As well I do hope to receive a response.

Sincerely,

Arman Smith

Only Second to Breathing

"I don't want to see your cell phones on your desk; turn them off and put them out of sight." How many times have you heard that from your teachers? It's an absurd statement. Those electronic devices are an integral part of modern man's life.
Since we have been young, our elders have told us to be social. It's a way of life. We, as humans, need to stay connected to each other. In the past, people held social gatherings in order to catch up. This generation does the same however it is so inconvenient that one has to wait that time between gatherings. Cell phones provide us a way to connect much faster through texting. All one has to do it quickly type in a text and if it's during class you have to be secretive so as not to get caught. I do realize education is important and texting is distracting me from it. However, being able to text Taylor what I had heard from Poonam about Erik and then Taylor must text Rav so Rav can text Erik is much more important. That way Erik can know about the rumor that Poonam had heard of and end it quickly rather than more people finding out about it.
Not only that but these devices allow for class notes to fly by far more quickly. Though we all love sitting in Mr. Becker's calculus class writing down and solving enormous integration problems using various functions, it would be beneficial if we all pulled out our camera phones and took pictures of Mr. Becker solving the problems. That way we can text while the lesson is occurring and still pay attention when we take the picture and view it. It would allow more time to work through practice problems and we would be more inclined to use our own brains. This also makes it so we don't have to pay the twenty dollars for a workbook because our phones are now the workbook with all of the examples a click away.

Cell phones relieve some of the pressure that is imposed by our teachers. If you have the latest and greatest technology you would know that any question asked by your teacher can be answered by 'googling' on your phone. This way no student has to to go through the awkward pause when they don't know the answer to a question and it makes them feel smart. As well, making sure the cell phones stay in the class allows for less mental breakdowns when unable to remember the definitions to various words needed to know on an everyday basis.

It seems completely unpractical that teachers or the school board would feel the need to ban cell phones from the class. If the above did not win you over then you can think of it this way, if they're on their cell phones then they aren't talking in the middle of class. Some teachers get their peace and quiet.

Fast Money?

"It's has been two weeks and no changes" sighed Mark.
"Are you sure it's been that many?" questioned Jackson as he sat down on the concrete floors.
"I'm positive," reassured Mark, that I counted the days properly."
"Feels like we have sat in this concrete, 14 by 16 room for at least a month," resented Jackson. "Do you know when our contract ends?"
"As soon as they find the results they wish to see."
"Ugh, I wanted to get some fast money! This has turned out to be painstakingly long,"complained Jackson.

"It's easy though. All we have to do is sign that contract that says we can't sue the pharmaceutical company, take some untested pills and sit and wait. Oh, not mention we get free food while we're here and thirty thousand dollars! Only downside is that I have to wear the same clothing as you," says Mark trying to lighten the mood.

"I just need the money badly. I wonder how my kids and wife are fairing without me there to support them," worried Jackson.
"Someone will be there to watch over them and keep them safe," comforted Mark. "Why do you need the money exactly?" he asked.
"It would allow us finally move out of the hovel of a house from downtown Chicago to someplace where my kids can play outside. My wife and I wouldn't have to worry about them being caught in the crossfire of some drug deal," explained Jackson. He wished that the medical doctors would let them speak with their families but the contract is completely against it. "How come your going through this process of being a human guinea pig?"
"Well, I could have taken over my father's company but I wanted to do something for myself. So, I went against everything they had wanted and started up my own business and have had some shortcomings. It's either have this money or claim bankrupt."
"Wow, I have to give it to you for not conforming to their wishes; I would not have the guts to do that.
One of the  medical examiners interrupts the two men," Please come with me, time for your daily examination."
They walk through the only entrance way to the room and down a wide hallway with the same concrete walls and floor. At the end of the hallway, there are two white doors. This is where the two men part to be examined. Before entering they wish each other good luck and hope for the best.

Bullying Not a Problem?

When other schools show signs of exclusion there is one that does the opposite. That school would be Princess Margaret Secondary School. It's located in the city of Penticton, British Columbia and has roughly seven hundred students. Not an overly large school but enough where bullying could rise but does not.

One can walk through the hallways of Princess Margaret "Maggie" and feel happy, not afraid that they will have their lunch money stolen for being the new kid. Most of the students shared positive comments on anti bullying. It shows much more progression with anti bullying than the other high school in the city. The principle of Princess Margaret was in tears speaking about the students and their positive attitude toward each other.

There are many events held through out the year that showcase the school's talent but also a message of anti bullying encased in them. "This constant reminder can be a nuisance, "says Maggie student Poonam Chahal, "everyone knows that it would be rude to say something negative ." This just goes to show that these teens are well aware of how it has felt to be bullied and do not wish that on others. At lunch, one does not see social groups but rather tables joined together so no one is left out. "It's one big family," exclaims Taylor Zucht.
The staff and administrators also make sure to connect with students. Making sure that student have at least one person to talk to in their time of need. In addition, there are workshops such as Challenge Day, that allows students to share their lives with fellow students and show that bullying affects everybody. A student who experienced Challenge Day says,"It was life changing, the obstacles people have gone through in their lives." Not to mention, Pink day. It's a day that was derived from a situation in Eastern Canada and has come all the way to Western Canada. Everyone on this day wears pink and signs a petition to show that they're against bullying. It is evident that this school does not have to take many more steps to show that they are against bullying.

"I love this school," sobbed Don MacIntyre, Princess Margaret Secondary School principle.

University Application: Additional Information

Honorable University Admission Staff,

Not sure if you have ever heard of the girl who began dunking NBA height basketball nets at the age of four. She goes to undeveloped countries to cure diseases with her healing hands. She goes swimming in the frigidly cold Arctic Ocean on a regular Sunday. She goes to school five days of the week and meets with the worlds diplomats in her spare time. If you haven't already heard of this amazing girl, you should be honored that she is writing this letter to you.
I have won every award show that has aired on television. I can sing. I can dance. I can fly. The greatest minds that have passed away such as Albert Einstein came to me for help. Not to mention, I discussed the African American civil rights movement with Martin Luther King. I did this all as well before the age of four.
I have been honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in every category possible. I'll list them just in case you are not aware, physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and for work in peace. I have been honored with a key to the city, Penticton. I have been honored with breakfast made my lovely mom everyday of the week.
In the morning, I cycled around Paris with Lance Armstrong. In the afternoon, I ate a late brunch with the Obama family. By nightfall, I had recorded a new song with Drake and Eminem. By midnight, I had finished singing my new song after Lady Gaga had opened for me at the concert.
I can hack anyone in this world. I can type four thousands words per minute. I can change what mother nature wishes. I can scale the treacherous Mount Everest in a record day and that without frostbite.I can write four blogs for English in less than four hours.
I know. I'm a super human. Take this opportunity to accept me and make your school the best in the world.

Thank you,

Armandeep Sidhu

Wishful Thinking

I sit here staring blankly at this empty text box at 12:13 am. Hoping, wishing and praying that it will fill itself as I need to zip through this and compete the mound of homework from other grade twelve teachers. I might just write the best blog you have ever seen. Wait, who am I kidding that won't happen. I give my head a huge shake, attempting to bounce some ideas around when I notice a blank piece of paper on the ground. I reach over and pick it up without crinkling it in the slightest and lay it flat on my laptop. Then, I begin to ponder the ways I could manipulate this piece of 8 1/2 by 11 paper. I go through thoughts of transforming it into some intricate origami, maybe a simple airplane or crumple it into a ball. This wouldn't be some ordinary ball. No, this would be a ball from the best sport in this world. Basketball! I quickly crumple and hold the sphere in my hand already going into game mode. I'm shooting the championship winning free throw for the Chicago Bulls. I'm the only girl ever inducted into the NBA. Yes, I'm the that spectacular. The crowds chanting my name as teammates give me tips on how to make it. I ignore them already knowing that I will have the perfect shot. The spectators fall into a silence. I get my balance, focus my eyes on the basket, elbow at a ninety degrees angle, take the shot and follow through with my hand in the cookie jar. The crowd is out of their seats going ballistic as I make the shot! I just won the game. My high of winning the game comes crashing down as I catch a glimpse of this the blank page once again. I groan, and hope one day my little fantasy comes true.
